Welcome Home, Mara!!

Mara has arrived at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil after her 1,710-mile journey from Buenos Aires, Argentina (2752km).

We are grateful to everyone who has helped to make this happen – especially the EcoParque Buenos Aires, our supporters, and the officials in both Brazil and Argentina who have made an international elephant transport possible during this pandemic.

Here, at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil, Mara will have a large habitat with trees, grass, ponds, creeks, mud wallows, specialized care staff, and elephant friends. Please join our team, our supporters around the world, and our resident elephants – Maia, Lady, and Rana in officially welcoming Mara home!

And a video a short time after the one above:

Mara has decided to lay down and take a little nap before exploring her new home.

After briefly exploring her new barn (during a Live feed earlier today), Mara decided the first thing to do would be to take a nap – which makes sense after four days of travel!

Beautiful, beautiful Mara. I was mesmerized watching both videos, seeing her take the first steps onto the sanctuary, and then succumbing to her body’s need for some rest. I can’t express how happy I am for her and looking forward to the next posts and videos describing her journey of a new life of freedom. Rest up Mara and staff – lots of good things to come! ❤️
