Elephants graze constantly. Because their bodies are designed to digest food in small amounts, they may spend up to 20 hours of their day eating. As we’ve joked before, most elephant days look something like: eat, chat, nap, poop, repeat. But the best days for the elephants are often those that are the most relaxed – when they can just be present in their surroundings.
On this particular afternoon, Rana was spending some time with her sisters in the habitat and decided to play with her food a bit. She leisurely snacks on a palm frond (one of her favorite foods), just taking her time.
The video also shows Rana’s unique walk, which is a result of an injury she received when she was approximately 5-years-old. But, as you can see, it doesn’t stop her from going where she wants, whenever she wants.
