Video: Happy International Mud Day!

Believe it or not, there is a special day of each year dedicated to the joy that can be found simply by playing in the mud. Here at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil, we could never limit that sort of fun to only one day. Our girls love mud baths for cooling off, use mud as sunscreen, and generally just enjoy having fun splashing around.

In this video, you can see a sleepy Rana eating big bites of hay, while using her trunk to splash around in the mud. Mara joins her and the two of them share happy ear flaps. Rana gives a bit of a trumpet and continues splashing in her puddle, as Mara joins in the fun. It is obvious the mud bath feels good and that naptime is imminent. Bambi walks over to see what Mara is squeaking about, but never joins in the puddle party. You can hear Kat in the video talking to the ladies and laughing at the mess that Rana and Mara are making.

I loved seeing this; is really is heart warming to watch them just… BE. I’m getting pretty good at identifying each of them, without needing ALL the identifiers to know for sure. It feels good, because I really do love them so much. Thank you for sharing with us.

It takes a little while to learn each girl’s characteristics, but once you get it all worked out you definitely can see their uniqueness. It can be fun to test yourself.
