The story of each elephant here at Elephant Sanctuary Brazil is unique and, when we stop to look back, the work that each individual has done to heal is awe-inspiring. Elephants are remarkable in their power to overcome past challenges and understand the opportunities their new lives hold for them. In that spirit, we wanted to share some important “firsts” for our residents here, both past and present. Those first steps into sanctuary, their first touches, and their instinctive sense of safety once they arrive: these are important reminders of the power of freedom and choice, and how true it is that sanctuary heals.
