There is something about a smiley, bright-eyed Maia that touches your heart in a way few other things can. It may be because of her dark past and how guarded and anxious she looked before her life at sanctuary. But photos like this will always cause us to pause, smile and appreciate the peace that sanctuary has brought to her entire being.

November 1, 2018 at 11:10 pmStill waiting on her import permits. We are planning on doing a more detailed update soon, just trying to figure out how to do it without insulting those who have the ability to deny permits to any elephants that need to come into Brazil from another country.
