When heading out to bring the elephants their breakfasts, Scott found Maia, Bambi, and Guillermina together, all wet and sparkling clean. He caught sight of them again later that afternoon, just as saturated all over. You can tell when an elephant has been in the pond versus when they’ve been playing in the dirt or a mud wallow; if they’ve been in the pond, they will be completely dark all over, and when they’ve been playing in the wallow, they will have dark spots with clumps of mud. This was definitely the pond version of wet. 

Those three girls have been utilizing the pond a good amount lately. They enjoy it in the hot, sunny weather, since it keeps them cool, but they also spend a lot of time there on rainy days. There’s something particularly joyful and silly about seeing the elephants frolicking in the rain, splashing around and having a wonderful time. On occasion, we notice that Bambi is only wet on her lower ⅔, which tells us that she’s not completely lying down in the water. But on this particular day, she was completely soaked both times that Scott observed her–as were Bambi and Guille.
