After last week’s post about Lady’s emotional growth, a few of you wondered if Maia and Rana love their humans. It’s an excellent question & we felt the answers deserve separate posts. We will talk about Rana today and Maia on Thursday!
Love is a strange and complex emotion that psychologists can study for years and still not understand. It’s hard, sometimes, to say where appreciation ends and love begins.
We joke that Rana loves the world, but that isn’t entirely true. Rana is easier than Lady and Maia, but that doesn’t make her easy.
Once Rana decides she loves you, that’s kind of it – you can almost do no wrong in her eyes, and she will do anything for you. At the same time, she doesn’t love or appreciate everybody she meets and there are always lines you can’t cross.
Rana is picky in an odd sort of way. She is cute and silly, but there’s a lot more depth to her than that. She appreciates the people who see all of her – not just the sweet and goofy parts of her. She values people who are open and love her, but she also expects everyone to have a certain amount of respect for her as well.
She comes off as soft, sweet, and perfect (which she is), but if someone sees her as only those things, she lets her displeasure be known. She has her limits and isn’t afraid to show attitude if she doesn’t feel her limits are respected. That said, once you get along with Rana and she decides she can trust you – which takes a little bit – you are golden in her eyes, and she will make loving goo-goo eyes at you and adore almost everything about you… and we do mean *everything.* It’s one of her most endearing traits, and one of the reasons it’s so easy to love her.
(Check back Thursday to read about Maia!)

April 21, 2020 at 11:33 pmAll this is so fascinating, how different they are to one another yet all have wonderful traits. In spite of all they have gone through, none of them, as far as I know, have any really bad traits.

April 23, 2020 at 1:40 amI could lose myself in these blogs! My little piece of Heaven every day. I enjoy learning about Rana, Maia and Lady’s characters and how they have evolved , the sanctuary’s loving carers allowing them their time to adjust, to trust and grow. It breaks me to think of what they have gone through, such complex creatures forced to entertain. The cruelty, the ignorance of Mankind.
At sanctuary their spirits can be free but it takes time with the right treatment, knowledge and love. They have this at ESB.
Rana loves and she chooses to love. Kat, Scott and all you wonderful carers, you make my heart sing!!! XXXXXXXXXXXX
