Morning treatment time with Rana and Maia frequently finds them sleepy. They usually eat breakfast right before treatment, so treatment occurs in the brief food coma window.
On their sleepiest (or silliest) mornings, they will act like their trunks are too big and heavy to hold up. They will plop their trunk on the middle bar, somewhat dramatically, for a few moments (or minutes) before getting in the final position for treatment. We mention this in posts sometimes, usually about Maia, but sometimes Rana does it as well. We don’t think we’ve ever posted a picture of what they look like when they look as if their trunks are too heavy to hold up, so we snapped this one the other day.
Photo of Rana B, not looking super sleepy, but still resting her trunk on the fence for a moment.
