The Amazon Fires Are Not Directly Affecting Us

Maia and Rana

News of the fires in the Amazon is starting to reach people around the world, which means messages from those concerned about the girls, us, and the other critters here at the sanctuary. As horrific as the fires are, they are not directly affecting our location.

The closest, active, significant fire is about a 24-hour drive from where we are located, so the fires themselves are not an issue. The smoke has been traveling to distant locations, as far as São Paulo, but it is not affecting us either. It seems the cliffs of our municipality create a nice little vortex. There is actually a website, windy.com (we are showing our geeky weather side ), that shows this. You can go to their homepage and look for Cuiabá Brazil- it’s about the center of South America. Then zoom in a few times until Campo Verde pops up, just off to the right. We are a little to the left of that city. You can see how the smoke circles around the perimeter of that area. That is our little safe haven.

The photo of Rana and Maia was taken yesterday afternoon. And although the light is a bit blown-out, which is typical for this time of year, everything is clear. Which means our girls can continue to enjoy a little splashing and drinking before dinner.

I have been thinking of the sanctuary and wondering what is happening with the Amazon fire? Thank you for the update!
    It is good to know.
