Sunday Smile: Lady’s Grass Shawl

This week’s Sunday Smile is all about fashion. Some of the elephants here enjoy tossing hay on their heads or backs – most notably Maia, Lady, and Guillermina. However, here you can see that Lady has gone for a new style using the grass from the male Asian yard. We think it looks like a regal cloak for our regal Lady.

Wonderful! It’s too bad we didn’t see a video of her making it. These girls have quite interesting personalities. She was probably very pleased with herself.

She doesn’t need it on her head as she already has a good head of hair! Do you have any insight as to why some elephants like adorning themselves? Maybe as sun protection?

Sometimes it’s just out of play. But it does offer sun and bug protection, so that could be a reason as well.
