Mara loves being surrounded by her friends, so we don’t often get the opportunity to catch video of her on her own. Here, she’s taking a short walk to meet Rana and Bambi in the habitat. The light catches her face in the loveliest way. So enjoy this brief walk with Mara, as she perhaps tries to show off her angelic side for the camera.

November 27, 2022 at 2:09 pmA brief moment of beauty for the eye, but a longer-lasting effect on the heart, which grows in its love for these incredible beings with each video and story you share. Thank you.

November 27, 2022 at 2:12 pmA little sexy walk by with Mara just made my day. Thank you all who send us cute “on the moment” video’s when you see one of the girls, or a group etc. It’s a wonderful feeling for us out here. You love your work and the elephants won their freedom thanks to all of you there.

November 27, 2022 at 3:45 pmShe really is lovely, she doesn’t push herself towards human contact and I guess she’s getting all she needs from her sisters. Is she called killer because of what happened to Pupy getting pushed in to the moat? Those moats are a nightmare. And she shared that space with 2 African elephants? Wow. I also don’t trust the labels given to captive elephants, from what you have shown me about who elephants are over the years I’m in awe that they are as balanced as they are and not stark raving mad from their past lives. There’s also how Kaavan has evolved too and he was supposed to have been a “killer”. You must give them the space they need, and the time, I’m loving watching them develop over the years.

November 27, 2022 at 4:00 pmMara has actually killed two people, and significantly injured another, hospitalizing them for months. but labels are only who we force them to be in certain situations. without choice, there is no way to know who they really are.

November 27, 2022 at 7:01 pmShocking to hear this news about our lovely Mara, but as you mentioned Kat, there is no way for us to know who they really are. It reminds me of an incident I experienced yrs ago while admiring an elephant housed outside during a circus break. A trainer began using the bull hook and of course I immediately reacted imploring him to stop. A couple of weeks later it was reported on the news that a circus employee had been killed by an elephant & I can’t help but wonder to this day if it was the same employee & if I in some way contributed to his death. Thank God circuses are now a distant bad memory. Bless you all at GSE for all you do for these magnificent animals.
