Stellar and Brave Mara!

Today is Scott’s last day at the Buenos Aires EcoParque before returning to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil tomorrow.

This was a brief trip to Argentina to help Mara begin to acclimate to her transport crate and begin her 30-day quarantine period, which is required prior to international transport. Mara is believed to be in her early-to-mid 50s and is slated to be transported to Brazil in late March or early April.

Scott and our team will return at the end of March to transport Mara to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil. As of today, she showed everyone how stellar and brave she was and has fully entered the crate with all four feet inside!

(Both videos were taken today at Ecoparque Buenos Aires with Mara.  The one above was the first one taken this morning.  The one below was taken a little later in the morning.)

Thank you so much for these videos. It is very uplifting to see Mara with her 4 feet in the crate. She looks relaxed as she enjoys her oranges and bamboo. So proud of this beautiful girl. These are your first steps to sanctuary, darling.

Didn’t you say that Pupi and Kuki have to do the quarantine process with Mara even though they are not coming now and maybe not ever. But this was to ensure they are disease free because they do have contact daily and share the same space?

Yes, all three are going through quarantine because of their close proximity.

Everyone must be so delighted with Mara progress and willingness to get inside the crate. Scott your love for the elephants is so gorgeous and almost tangible. I can’t wait to see Mara in Brazil – she will not believe her luck. I never knew elephants could peel oranges ! Love you for making it happen and for Buenos Aires for footing most of the costs .
