Lady has been spending time once again in the male yard, enjoying all of the palms that are at her disposal. While she was there, we thought it would be nice to open up all of the yards for the other five girls. We can’t be sure where they slept that night,, but by morning everyone was in Yard 5. Guille was exploring on her own, but Mara, Maia, Bambi, and Rana were standing together.
It was time to clean Yards 4 and 5, so the elephants stayed closer to the barn for the afternoon, where they got their daily checkups and did a little training. After that, Bambi, Mara, Maia, and Rana all went into the little mud wallow nearby and calmly hung out. They were playing in the mud and enjoying the shade. The weather is particularly sunny these days, so the elephants are lazy during the day and enjoy a good splash. Guillermina perhaps had a bit more energy than the others, because she decided to wander between yards, checking in on the other girls and then grazing in different areas around the barn. Overall, it was a picturesque afternoon for everyone.

August 3, 2023 at 7:51 pmNot to be “that person” but the updates don’t really tell much. You say that bureaucracy is the hold up but you don’t explain how. There aren’t that many elephants in South America and you’re only trying to relocate 4 or 3 if we’re being honest because Tamy is probably going to fall through the cracks. Why does it take years to get a permit approved? What are the specific holdups?

August 3, 2023 at 10:26 pmThe paperwork can take months under the best of circumstances. For the African females, their Argentinian export permits expired before their Brazilian import permits were approved. So that process has to begin again. When the new government took over in Brazil, that threw a wrench in things. As for Tamy, his training is not under our purview. That’s being done by the Mendoza facility. He can’t be transported until that training is done.
