Some Days and Other Days

Maia, Rana, Lady

While Lady is busy blowing us all away, it’s been life as usual for Maia and Rana – some days they spend together, and some days they spend apart. Some days they are closer to the barn, and other days they are further away. They tend to spend more time away from the barn when it’s cooler.

Sometimes, while they are close to the barn, they “visit” with Lady. There is still no touching or getting too close, but everyone seems to enjoy these moments. We recently took a few pictures of all the girls together.

The evening we took this photo, we were taking Maia down the road to feed her, and Rana was around the corner. Along the way, Maia stopped for a few moments to watch Lady through the fence as Lady walked toward them. The interaction only lasted for a few minutes because Maia & Rana know when dinner time is and that the four-wheeler delivers. As we all know, almost nothing takes priority over Maia’s dinner – not even Lady. ?

Photo: Maia is in the foreground, facing the camera. Rana is the middle elephant, facing away from the others & Lady is on the other side of the fence.

It is quite something to see three untethered elephants withib a short distance of each other in 2,200+? acres of Land.

Of course, I do realise that they do not have open access to the complete Sanctuary. 🙂

A joyous photo of three elephants happy and at their ease. What more could we wish for them now surrounded by lush green trees and shrubs and grasses, at peace in the moment.
