Social by Lady Standards

Lady recently had a very social day – well, social by her standards!

Lady has continued to spend time by the barn, mostly in Yard 3. When we arrived at the barn that morning, we planned on doing Lady’s foot soaks early. Instead, we found Rana in Yard 2 by herself and Lady in the back of Yard 3.

Rana seemed to be in a good mood, so we decided to see if Rana wanted to enter the barn for some foot care. She did. As Scott worked with Rana, Kat headed out to feed the others. Maia is still in Yard 5, alternating between grazing and pond blobbing. Mara and Bambi were near the pond in Yard 4, looking cute and chatty for breakfast delivery.

By the time Kat made it back, Rana was done in the barn. We wanted to give Lady access to Yards 1, 2, & 3, so Kat invited Rana to return to Yard 4. Rana happily followed. A little bit later, we saw Lady and Rana near the 4A water trough, which is shared by Yards 3 & 4. Lady was bathing in the water in Yard 3. When we went by later, Rana was drinking from the same trough from the Yard 4 side. The two spent some time together near each other.

Around lunchtime, one of our newer caregivers, Kairo, let Kat & Scott know Lady was heading toward the barn. In the five minutes it took Kat and Scott to get to the barn to do her soaks, Lady had passed the barn and was having a great time in the mud wallow in Yard 1. When we looked later, Maia had left the pond and was near the fence between Yards 1 & 5. Lady and Maia ended up spending some time near each other, socializing through the fence as well. Not only has it been a while that we have seen Lady with Maia, but Maia hasn’t been seeking out company the past few weeks, so it was nice to see the two hanging out near each other.

When Lady wandered off from spending time near Maia, she went to the back of Yard 2 and started grazing in an area with nice grass. She seemed content engaging in her surroundings after a day of spending time with other elephants.

She never got her foot soaks that day, but part of the balance of sanctuary is about honoring to the importance of emotional and mental healing and well-being, along with caring for their physical being.

This is great to hear about Lady and the other Elephants mixing and socialising. It takes time to do that as Humans. So Elephants have been abused trust has to earned.

Wonderful steps from our Lady. Hopefully the company is healing for all of the girls. Would be great magic when the herd gets closer. ??

I so love hearing about Lady! Well, I love hearing about all of them, but I tend to worry about Lady a bit.

OH MY. GREAT HAPPY NEWS?. I CERTAINLY BELIEVE MZ LADY?❤️ IS READY TO JOIN RANA? FOR SURE!! I REMEMBER WHEN SHORTLY AFTER TERRIFIED LADY ARRIVED AT SANCTUARY! SHE WAS RUNNING AND DISTANCING HERSELF FROM MAIA! RANA! EVEN WHEN MARA CAME ALONG AND ALSO WHEN BIG SWEET NOISEY ? BAMBI ARRIVED❗️ RANA STOOD MANY HOURS MANY DAYS NEAR THE FENCE WATCHING LADY AT DISTANCE AWAY THRU THE FENCE! RANA MUST HAVE CHATTED TO LADY ABOUT HOW ALL THE??? LADIES WOULDNT HURT HER TO NO AVAIL! SO RANA. AND MARA BEGAN DEVELOPING THEIR LOVING ??SISTERHOOD!
ON THIS DAY I BELIEVE RANA CHATTED AND CHECKED IN WITH LIL LADY AND IT APPEARS LADY HAS BEEN SHEDDING HER FEARS QUITE WELL IN THE LAST YEAR? I ALSO BELIEVE RANA ?AND LADY ?SHOULD BE GIVEN OPPORTUNITY TO BE IN SAME YARD TO CONTINUE LADYS BLOSSOMING SOCIAL SKILLS ??❤️IM PRAYING MZ MATRIARCH RANA WILL SUCCEED SHOWING THIS DEAR LADY HOW MANY SOCIAL EVENTS SHES MISSING? BEFORE THE NEW LADIES ARRIVE!?. IT WOULD BE SO AMAZING IF RANA AND LADY COULD SHOW EACH OTHER LOVE , MZ LADY IS SO CUTE. Oh FEEL SO SAD FOR HER ALONENESS?

Lady is so cute, her personality is adorable! Love the way she knows how close she wants to get with other elephants! She isn’t as fearful as she was! Time is healing! ♥️

I’m so happy that Lady is slowly coming closer to the other girls and having some social time, we have all hoped for so long that she will join the herd but Lady is doing her own thing in her own time that’s just as it should be.
