This is one of several items needed so that work on cuticles, nails, and pads can be done carefully and properly. We will not use any of the foot tools used on Lady’s feet on any of the other elephants due to the condition of her feet. She will not only need her own set of tools, but they will need to be replaced somewhat frequently to ensure they stay sharp in order to not cause any unnecessary pulling or pain. The hoof knife allows for trimming of pads and nails in a very controlled and precise manner- where you can feel density changes as you go along and adjust as needed to avoid causing trauma or pain.
