When it’s time for elephant meals, we spread out the snacks to make sure everyone has their own space to eat, where others won’t walk over and steal their neighbor’s food. Here, Scott is at the beginning of that process, leading Guillermina to her spot for dinner. She doesn’t always get her food at a distance from the others but, in some cases, depending on her mood and behaviors, it becomes obvious that she might need some space from the others to prevent unnecessary “sharing.” The meals for the rest of the girls will be lined up with just enough space between themselves and Guille to encourage her to keep to her own pile.
While Maia and Bambi were once our fastest girls, Guille has surpassed them in speed by leaps and bounds. Scott is keeping up with her, but she seems to be challenging him to move faster so that she can get her food as soon as possible. It’s undeniably cute.

March 16, 2023 at 7:46 pmShe’s still a “big-boned” girl (I can relate), but she has trimmed down significantly since she arrived. Very proud of her.

March 17, 2023 at 9:19 amI was wondering if there is any time line to get Kenya and the other African elephant, I believe there were two. Also, what about that poor male, whom I believe is Guelli’s father?
Sara says
March 17, 2023 at 10:22 amThere is no timeline right now. Kenya, Kuky and Pupy are all still in the permit process. Tamy, who is Guille’s father, needs a good bit of training from the Mendoza ecoparque keepers before he will be ready to go.
