This morning, Scott and Raphael share some thoughts from the road as the team makes their way closer and closer to Sanctuary. They talk about the unfortunate political influence that has surrounded this transfer, as some people have tried to take advantage of Sandro’s situation to gain followers and attention.
Scott also stresses the importance of giving elephants a chance to show us what they are capable of before we limit them due to fear. He also talks about the cameras and temperature monitors that help the team monitor Sandro to make sure that he’s comfortable and doing well throughout the entire trip.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support Sandro and follow his journey! Don’t forget – you can read more information about Sandro and donate to help in his transport expenses.

Help take extra special care of an elephant that is close to your heart.

September 17, 2026 at 12:01 pmSuch a relief everyone got out of there safely. Unfortunately, there will always be people who choose ignorance over educating themselves to what’s best for eles and people who use them for their own selfish reasons. Beyond grateful to everyone who made this happen. Waiting for you to get home sweet boy. Stay safe everyone!💗🥰

September 17, 2026 at 6:01 pmI’m pleased that you have left the scene of turmoil and moving now toward Sando discovering the love in that land, freedom and caregivers.
I cannot wait to see him out and about! Thanks, Scott and trusted team, words fail me, it’s so kind and generous how you all work to give them freedoms lost.

September 17, 2026 at 9:05 pmAs I watch the crate and its precious cargo move on down the road, and listen to Scott talking about stopping for a break, I had the thought that if this was a family road trip with a dog, they’d be stopping to let the dog out, stretch its legs, drink some water, eat some food. The image came to mind of Sandro getting out of the crate for a quick pit stop to stretch his legs. Can you imagine the stir that might cause to people on the same road, looking over and there’s Sandro and his team running across the fields enjoying a quick stop? That would be quite a feat – letting Sandro out of the crate and then getting him back in it to continue on down the road. It made me chuckle, just the thought. How difficult it is and what it involves to move a huge elephant from one location to another. I’m glad to see and know that Sandro is in excellent hands as he makes this monumental trip to his new home. Safe travels, Sandro and the whole GSE team. I can’t wait until they all arrive safely at Sanctuary Brazil tomorrow. What a celebration that will be!
