As you may know, the elephants seem to think of the 4-wheelers as something akin to an ice cream truck – ready to offer food whenever it drives by. On a recent afternoon, Scott was passing by Yard 4 and stopped for a moment to greet Rana, Mara, and Bambi, who came up to the fence line. They appeared to be disappointed that he had no food for them and Mara was vocal about it. While Rana rumbles, seeming to greet Scott, Mara gives one of her extended squeaks, which causes Bambi to offer a little trumpet. Rana responds with another rumble, which seems to quiet the group down. It goes to show that, even though the elephants might appreciate visits from their human caregivers, on some days there is no substitute for snacks.
