Rana is progressing at a very nice pace with the training needed to provide her with the proper care. Decades of circus life takes a toll on the body, and we need to be able to address any physical issues.
Scott and Karissa are now working together with filing Rana’s feet. Rana is incredibly respectful with her trunk, which makes using this part of the fence possible. Karissa is holding her nose and using her other hand like a target pole. As a side note, we don’t physically hold their nose, they offer it into our hands, and we allow it to rest in our palms. When the girls are initially taught behaviors, the target pole is used, as they become more confident and comfortable, we transition to using hands instead. After she positions Rana and she is ready, Scott comes in and begins to work on her feet.
Each session is different, as well as every time she places her foot within the session. With Rana, you can generally read if she is only going to stay for a short moment, or if she’s really settled in and good for longer. Rana has displayed immense amounts of patience and trust with the treatments that needed to be done starting upon her arrival. She is quite spectacular, and we are very grateful.
