Rana has been enjoying having access to both Yard 5 and the male Asian yard – and she can’t help but show it. First thing in the morning we have found her with Maia across the creek and deep into Yard 5; by mid-afternoon, she often goes back to the other side again with Bambi, Mara, and Guille. She seems to be making the rounds. Whether she’s just enjoying the space, trying to convince the others to join her on her treks, or perhaps just getting in some quality time with everyone, we will never know.
One morning, we knew she’d been with Maia across the creek but, when it came time for breakfast, Rana wasn’t with Maia any longer. In fact, she was on the other side of the creek and headed toward the barn. The caregivers decided this would be a good time to check on her feet and give her a foot soak for good measure, since she arrived with one problematic toe that periodically flares up. Scott thought this would be another nice opportunity to give her access to the male Asian yard and opened up the gate for her. Instead, Rana opted to graze for a while near the barn. But as soon as Scott decided to close up the male habitat, since Rana didn’t seem interested in entering, she changed her mind and headed that way.
Needless to say, Rana seems to be making the most of her jaunts across the habitats, filling her days with friendly meetups, fresh grass, and lots of exercise. This video shows a moment right after she’s returned to her friends and there’s a celebration. Mara even touches Rana with her foot. It seems there are plenty of chances to have mini-parties these days.
