This week, we’ve taken a look at Lady’s special grazing technique, Guillermina’s unique way of eating grass, and now we get a peek at Rana demonstrating how she grazes.
On this morning, Rana is close to Mara, who is making herself heard with some little squeaks. You can see that, as Rana picks her mouthfuls, most of the time she does not pull roots up with the grass. Even without roots attached, she still tears off the bottom little bit and drops it to the ground before pulling it into her mouth with her tongue.
This is just another way of showing how each elephant here at sanctuary has their own personality and way of doing things. They demonstrate their individuality through even the smallest things, showing that there’s no one right way to do things, as long as the job gets done.
