Mara and Rana Eating Dinner by the Pond

Last night Mara and Rana had dinner in the big pasture next to the pond. It’s charming to watch the two of them together, although sometimes challenging to get them to go anywhere fast. They will follow quickly at times, but other times they take two steps, touch each other, take two more steps, squeak and rumble and touch, and so on. Mara seemed very pleased at their dinner location and was looking and touching all around, while Rana casually at her dinner not tremendously impressed by her ‘normal’ surroundings.

Although they are next to the pond, it has cooled off here significantly. About 4 or 5 times a year, the temperature drops into the 60s during the day. This is one of those times. For the next few days, we don’t expect any of the girls to be too interested in swimming, but it will warm up soon enough. This afternoon Maia, Mara, and Rana have access to both of the big yards while Lady is in 1, 2, and 3. Everyone is grazing in the little forested areas, taking advantage of nature’s wind blocks.

A leisurely time eating and enjoying the moment. Mara’s life has changed so much. She has a beautiful home, a new friend (maybe and old friend or family member) and freedom to do as she wishes. I am happy for Rana, too, as she has a constant companion again since the great loss of sweet Ramba. Long may it continue.

Always a joy to see the girls going about their daily lives at the Elephant Sanctuary Brazil. If they only knew how many people are watching and savoring every moment of their activities.

This adorable vid makes me think of Cleopatra being fanned by elegantly attired “friends”! Those ears were made for flappin’ that’s what they’re made to do . . . One of these days, this Lady, will flap all over you!

Who could have predicted this marvel?! And Maia in the same space too. Maybe next year Lady will feel she can too. Well done GSE! Too lovely to watch!
