It’s the rainy season, so there is lots of mud everywhere all of the time. There’s been more rain than usual the past few days, and the elephants designated one day as “mud day” (or at least it seemed that way).
Bambi and Rana were in the same yard, with Mara in the neighboring yard. In the corner between Yards 2 & 3, there is a dust pile on one side. On the other side, over the years, the elephants have made a decent-sized hole. All three girls converged in that corner and started bathing, squishing, and rubbing. They all seemed super happy and light to be so muddy. They were ridiculously messy looking, with inches of mud piled thick all over their entire bodies. They were having a big party, with lots of touching each other and silliness.
They seemed to all have a wonderful time, and there is nothing better than happy and dirty elephants.
Photo of a very muddy Mara.

December 23, 2020 at 4:52 pmSuch a happy story to share!! I am absolutely blown away at how a captive elephant can go so long without maybe trees or grass, and yet in Sanctuary their instincts and/or memories come back to them and allow them to enjoy these wonderful things!!! I can’t get enough of seeing all the Girls when they are light and happy!!!! Thank you for the story!!! Love and hugs to all! ❤️?❤️

December 24, 2020 at 1:30 amIts so nice to read that those in sanctuary are having fun, being the kids they want to be, and NOT having a care in the world…..I am so looking forward to NEW members of this wonderful group of pacaderms? , when Pocha and Gullermina make their home at GSE, as well as all those who are in the pipeline to come…May the year of 2021 be a GREAT year of sanctuary for many more elephants !!!!!!
