There are few sounds as satisfying as hearing an elephant crush or chomp down on a crunchy bit of produce, and both Rana and Mara obliged this morning during their breakfast. All of the ladies received some extra pumpkins from a Halloween fundraiser independently put on by friends of GSE.
Rana steps on her pumpkin right away to smash it, then decides to play with her food for a minute before opting for hay instead. In the background, you can hear Mara getting down to business, not wasting a moment in eating her pumpkin snack. Bambi (who was standing just to the side) normally likes to keep a whole fruit in her trunk and enjoy it piece-by-piece. But, because her pumpkin was so big, she had to portion her bites into segments before picking up smaller chunks to eat. It didn’t seem to hamper her enjoyment at all. The rest of the ladies all similarly appreciated their fruit (yes – pumpkin is a fruit) before finding their way to some shady grazing areas to enjoy the afternoon.
