Leaving the PAWS conference and on my first flight to Sao Paulo I remain overwhelmed by the spectrum of emotions which continue to carry through every thought and breath. This, being my third conference, was by far the most inspiring, the most thought provoking and the most humbling of them all. To be in a room of colleagues, of ground breaking scientist and of youth-filled advocates breaking down the walls for positive change, all coming together with a sense of unity and unilateral respect was simply and purely an honor.
As the days progressed through speakers and private conversations, there was an undeniable and infinite sense of appreciation for the work of every single person. One stand out moment was the story of a young researcher being near speechless when meeting one of her heroes in the bathroom and knowing this incredible hero myself, I am sure that she was in equal admiration for the incredible work of her admirer.
With too many names and stories to share to provide proper justice to their incredible work and impact, I am only left to say, thank you to Performing Animal Welfare Society – PAWS and gratitude to everyone who came together to remind us that each is as important and as impactful as the next.
With humility and gratitude,
Scott
