Pocha and Guillermina are some of the chattiest elephants we’ve ever known – but Pocha currently holds the title of loudest trumpeting elephant we’ve ever crossed paths with. In fact, she’s so loud that if you’re standing near her and she trumpets when you aren’t expecting it, you can get truly startled.
While it’s extraordinarily loud to us, for Pocha, it’s her regular-old everyday trumpet. Just another thing that makes her unique among our growing herd of elephants.
We were trying to catch her trumpets on video during night feed, but since she’s an elephant, the first time we pulled out the camera she got quiet. The second time she obliged, although not quite as loud as usual. At the end, we are laughing because Guille was scratching her face on her mom’s face. ☺️

So grateful to Scott and Kat for sharing these moments with us! I realize there’s an incredible amount of work that you all do every day to make sanctuary happen — for instance, getting up in the middle of the night to feed the girls — so not glamorizing your life! But I can imagine that the rewards of being able to relate to the girls personally like this are deeply profound. Your gentleness with all the girls touches my heart and I appreciate these videos and commentaries more than I can say. Thanks for keeping us connected.

you’re welcome. we feel it’s part of what we owe them in telling their honest stories. not all puppies and rainbows but the good and bad along their journeys as they try to find their way back to being an elephant. pretty photos are easy, but it doesn’t educate people about the reality of captivity for such an emotionally deep and intelligent being. it is exhausting at times, but also rewarding in a way that words don’t do justice. and we get to share this life with someone we love. ❤️

That was so much fun to watch just love it when they get super vocal making all those unique sounds but especially when they make really loud trumpets they obviously have alot of things to say dont they 🤣

That was lovely thank you, these two are really making themselves at home, just what we’ve always dreamed of ❤️
So looking forward to more of their personalities going forward.
Love the way you both talk to them with such love and affection they must sense how much you care for them ❤️🐘🐘❤️

Oh my goodness they are so much better already. It looks like they like human affection? They are just so grateful to be out of that horrible place they existed in. They see they can trust humans. Ty all for what you do. ❤️
Kat Blais saysJune 12, 2022 at 2:52 pm
yes, they are affectionate, but not towards everyone. pocha is testing some of the caregivers a bit. and guille can be forceful in her actions. so there is definitely an awareness to being close with both of them.

Every time I see them up close in a video, I want to reach out and pet them. Thanks for itching that scratch for me! 🙂

I think you are bring out the best in humans as well a elephants. We can pass it on to other humans to educate them, I have told many of my friends how elephants are such wonderful creatures, better than many humans.

I love that the girls are so vocal, they sound happy, greeting you as you come to them.

Music to my ears….this has been such a fascinating journey with the two “newbies”. It’s a privilege to be just a small part of it…I say a little prayer every day for all of the girls and their people.

It’s always so interesting and exciting to know about the girls, It’s amazing the difference it makes to have lived free and with her family at least a couple of years. I’ll be so happy to see them swimming and bubbling. Thank you guys for this beautiful video.

I was always saying, the Sanctuary will never be the same after Pocha and Guille arrive! And I was so right! The place became more alive somehow. More busy and oooo boy, noisier…:-) Even our Lady came to check those noises out, not once but three times..:-) Absolutely love those happy trumpets and rumbles and squeaks….This is what elephants happiness sounds like..:-))) I love your daily posts/photos/videos. As soon as I wake up I rush to your fb page to check what was happening your way while the rest of us slept down under…THANK YOU for sharing! Thank you for making those daily posts for us xoxoxox
