After spending the day in the larger yard, Pocha, Guille, and the “Powerpuff Girls” headed back to the barn and stayed in the smaller yards. For a fair bit of time, Pocha opted to hang out by herself in one yard, then moved to the next yard where she spent time with Bambi, Mara,
and Rana, before finally settling down briefly in the next yard with Guille.
While her mother was traveling around and exploring the others, Guillermina stayed put next to Bambi – just hanging out, the two of them smelling each other, and doing some non-audible chatting. Pocha continued to walk back and forth, checking everyone out with curiosity. When the other elephants would move or shift yards, Pocha would follow or would change her own position to keep tabs on everyone. At one point, Rana, Mara, and Bambi had a mini-celebration, which caused Pocha to come running (as she’s done in the past) – but, as usual, she didn’t join in with vocalizations.
These days, Pocha and Guille are not always side by side. Each is gradually starting to form relationships with others, which will undoubtedly change the group’s dynamics. The other elephants seem to be taking the new additions in stride, with mostly passive and lower-energy interactions – which seems to be what Guille and Pocha need at the moment.

July 11, 2022 at 4:31 pmWhat a terrific update! It does the heart good to know that Pocha and Guillermina are individuating in these healthy ways, and that the Powerpuff Girls are being so sweet and welcoming . Couldn’t ask for better news. And what a strong indicator of how safe P & G are feeling in their new environment, that they feel at ease being more separate. Great work, ESB!

July 12, 2022 at 8:46 amSO MUCH PROGRESS!
Pocha and Guille are integrating and separating faster than I had anticipated. I’m over the moon to read this update. I love that Bambi is really making the effort to form a friendship with these gals. And Pocha taking a much needed “Mom” break while keeping a watchful eye on her “child”
YOU ALL MAKE ME SO HAPPY! THANK YOU XOXO
