Pocha and Guillermina’s Campaign is Funded! You Did It Again! Thank You! ❤️

horizons and hope

We are so incredibly thrilled to announce that we have met our fundraising goal: Pocha and Guillermina’s rescue is officially funded!

We are so grateful to each of you in our sanctuary family for contributing to give them new lives. Thank you for stepping up every time the elephants have needed you, and giving what it takes to make dreams a reality. We don’t know if either of these elephants could even dream of what’s to come.

Please know that when you watch Guillermina step in the dirt for the first time, it is thanks to your generosity. When Pocha is finally able to share real, actual life with her daughter, grazing, swimming, and napping under trees, it is because of you. We can’t wait to share every step of their journey with you.

For so long, we’ve dreamed of bringing horizons and hope to Pocha and Guillermina. It’s simultaneously too easy and too hard to imagine what their life must be like now. Guillermina has never seen grass growing out of the ground, or a tree, much less touched or rubbed against one. She may not realize that there is a whole world that stretches out beyond her walls. That’s going to change now. And we cannot thank each of you enough for giving them this gift on #GivingTuesday.

As we mentioned earlier, our goal is a February 2021 rescue, but there are several variables and COVID-related hurdles to overcome. We will continue to keep you all posted as things occur and a timeline solidifies. For now, though, after lifetimes in a pit, we are delighted to know that new lives will soon be theirs. We are deeply grateful for your compassion and support. Thank you.

If you would still like to give, funds for Pocha and Guillermina’s care are always appreciated. You can continue to donate at the link above.

I am so worried about Tamy and how he will cope with his family gone. Can he come soon? Bless you and love you so much.

It will be a while before he is able to come. We have to first get the paperwork needed to start building his area, then raised the significant funds needed to do so. Then, as usual, CITES permits, training, and quarantine. We wish it was easier, but each rescue is a significant process.

I’m absolutely thrilled! I can’t wait to see their reaction and the other girls’ reactions. To have a “baby” ele there is amazing. I’ve always wanted to have a baby at ESB and TES. Soooo excited!!!!

Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!! The way the “team” of supporters consistently step up to help these magnificent creatures live a life of guided freedom brings tears to my eyes. It’s humanity at its best – and that includes the wonderful folks at GSE who lead the way with their loving care and respectful guidance. I’m sooo grateful for this forum that brings so much joy in my life – not something I take for granted. I leave you with one of my favorite Helen Keller quotes that speaks of the reason behind this monumental success: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Happy hugs everyone – well done! ??? ?

This is another step towards sanctuary. We have to be patient and each day that passes brings Pocha and Guillermina closer to the fresh grasses, the trees, ponds and a whole new life. They have waited so long but we will bring them home together.

Yes, he will be able to see them loaded on the trucks and leaving. He will also have access to their part of the enclosure once they are gone.
