We know this is one of those milestones that you all love, so we are happy to announce the crates have left the sanctuary and are heading to Pocha and Guillermina’s current home: Ecoparque Mendoza. Don’t worry, Minnie (the dog) did not go with them; she was just a temporary escort. The two crates left our beautiful sanctuary empty and, when they return, they will have the next lovely ladies of Elephant Sanctuary Brazil inside of them.
The overall trip for the empty crates, including customs and all of the stops for permit and content checks, will take about a week. Once the crates arrive, they will be set up in their respective places and Pocha and Guillermina will have a chance to inspect them and get their first hint of sanctuary smells. Although the containers are cleaned and repainted when needed, the smell of other elephants lingers.
Chrissy and Karissa will be able to expand on separation training with P&G to include having them go into their separate crates and, after some time, be closed in. They are receiving their crates earlier than ‘normal’ since separation comfort is so integral to this relocation. As usual, we will keep you posted. Once we have a better idea of possible travel dates for the girls, we will let you know. But for now, it is all on their time and how their comfort levels progress.
Every day, one step closer.

March 16, 2021 at 2:39 pmGood thing no one was home with me! I played this on a big screen and was clapping and waving and singing Boa Viagem. I have tears of joy. Am gasping for breath. Sending my positive vibes. Oh! And loved the cute little puppy doggie enjoying the send off as well! I am still crying. This is so emotional. I can imagine how everyone at Global Sanctuary for Elephants must be feeling.

March 16, 2021 at 2:43 pmWill they be coming back in the same truck? I noticed the walls of the truck shields the view of what is going on outside the crate. Is this on purpose so as to not overstimulate P & G? Or will the truck bringing them home be like what we are used to seeing?
Kat Blais says
March 16, 2021 at 2:44 pmThey will be riding on two trucks on the way home for safety, so the trucks will be like what you are used to seeing.

March 16, 2021 at 2:46 pmOh my God! It’s really finally happening! I know it’s a ways away yet, but this is where “the rubber meets the road”! ?. I am SO excited for these two and, honestly, for some reason worried about their travels. It’s going to be SUCH a sensory overload for them. More so, it seems to me, than many of the other elephants you’ve brought. I mean, these two have been living in a concrete pit for heaven’s sake!
I also think the introduction to the other elephants may be more challenging because these two are a unit…a package deal…
Well, we shall see, right?!!! I have total faith in your process at GSE and in Scott, Kat and the entire team, so I’m sure it will work out, but I don’t think my stomach will quit doing flip-flops until they arrive and are settled in! ❤️??❤️

March 16, 2021 at 3:10 pmThis is so exciting. Their reaction to the sanctuary with all its beauty and grandeur will be priceless. And of course the girls reaction to them as the new arrivals. Guillermina is in for a treat at seeing the world for the first time.
Lynn Herrick says
March 16, 2021 at 3:18 pmWill they each have assigned crates, or are the crates interchangeable for separation training purposes?
sara says
March 16, 2021 at 4:18 pmEach will have her own crate, which they will not be in during the quarantine. They will only enter the crates when they are ready and it is time for transport. We are not exactly sure how this will go, since this is our first time bringing more than one animal, but we hope they will take to it well. The two crates are for safety purposes.

March 16, 2021 at 3:59 pmIs that truck with the crane going to Mendoza, , or was that truck just leaving GSE now that its work of loading the crates was done? Was Scott driving to Mendoza NOW? or will Scott and other GSE staff members go to Mendoza in another week or 2?
sara says
March 16, 2021 at 4:29 pmThe crane was used just load the crates onto the truck. And, no, Scott isn’t going now. We need him too much here! Our trainers will be there are receive the crates.

March 16, 2021 at 4:19 pmWe can hardly wait until they are on the road to the sanctuary and will be sending love and light their way to help ease their anxiety and fear. Until then, was reading the Elephants in Need page and was saddened to read how many of the elephants stuck in captivity have died since you visited them. That must be so gut wrenching but have to ask about the status of the two Asian girls at https://globalelephants.org/sao-paulo-zoo-elephants/ Is a one-way trip to the sanctuary in their future at all??
sara says
March 16, 2021 at 4:33 pmWe have not forgotten about any of them. We think about how many elephants need rescue so often. But, at the end of the day, it really comes down to raising funds. We are a small organization and each rescue takes tens of thousands of dollars. Thank you for remembering all of those special individuals.

March 16, 2021 at 4:30 pmSo VERY excited to hear! Wondering Pocha’s history & if the shift will trigger memories at all. As for Guillermina, the only life she’s ever known is the one inside that awful concrete pit. 🙁 Just hoping they will both be ok being apart from each other for the trip to SANCTUARY. I can’t wait!
❤?❤?❤?❤?

March 16, 2021 at 5:11 pmThank you, Sara, for your work with ESB. You don’t have to post this, but I just wanted to say that you probably only need to ask for the money, and this elephant community will provide. Heck, some of us would even fly down there to volunteer and pay you rent while doing it. Only you all know if that kind of thing would work out, but my point is you’ve got a big and loving community out here. Don’t be afraid to ask!!!
sara says
March 16, 2021 at 6:40 pmWe are grateful for every penny our supporters provide. Our community is what keeps us going. Know that we will absolutely be communicating our needs. All of you keep us moving toward our goal of bringing as many elephants to freedom as we can.

March 17, 2021 at 12:32 amWill those driving to Mendoza NOW, take the same route as the trucks coming back with OUR P and G? Or will the GSE trucks go thru Paraguay to save time NOW……I believe that the least number of countries crossed makes for less paperwork, less issues at passport control, less potential border guards to deal with, etc… ( I have been to 20 countries, including in the EAST Block in 1986), so I can imagine driving with 2 elephants, the border guards can be trouble, and less potential problems with ONLY 2 countries……I’m sure that when the trucks are returning with their valuable cargo of P and G, they will ONLY use roads in Argentina and Brazil? Correct? I’ll be following the transport with my South American map, which is very good……
sara says
March 17, 2021 at 3:56 pmFor safety reasons, we won’t be making any comments about the route we will be taking in either direction. Just know they’ll be here sooner rather than later.

March 17, 2021 at 5:31 pmI just read the post and all the comments – and haven’t watched the video yet – but I had to mention how wonderful this community of supporters are. I feel as though we could all be friends. I agree with all of them and sooo excited to hear about the step by step progress being made, and how hard it is to be patient with their progress. However, due to educating us so well, I keenly understand that patience is key. I’m smiling ear to ear with this GREAT news!!
