As part of our shifting herd dynamics, Mara, Rana, and Maia have been seen together multiple times the past few days. There have been a few cute moments between the three girls, and it’s encouraging to see the three spending time together relaxed and clearly enjoying each other’s company.
In non-elephant related news, we have had roofers here the past few weeks replacing the office roof. We have to admit that replacing a roof during the rainy season is a bit of a battle, but it is happening, albeit slowly. As a bonus, the humans are becoming adept at dodging buckets that are catching drips and puddles in the house. ?
We also wanted to share that a large branch fell off the Itchy-Scratchy tree. We aren’t sure what caused it to fall off, and believe the tree is still healthy overall. The “famous” tree just looks different now. The elephants don’t seem to mind, as they are still scratching on it every time they stop by Yard 1, and that is what matters.

January 10, 2021 at 3:10 pmHaha, love this post. Happy to hear the eles are successfully deepening their bonds and that the humans are successfully dodging buckets. I’m smiling at the thought of it all. Hurrah for both!

January 11, 2021 at 12:14 amNot the itchy scratchy tree! Say it ain’t so! ?. Well, as long as the girls don’t care, I guess I’ll adjust.
So, a question for you: was the roof a surprise repair? Why during rainy season? (Although the bucket-jumping, puddle-dodging visual does make me smile! ?
Kat Blais says
January 11, 2021 at 11:02 pmNot a surprise. It was supposed to be done towards the end of the dry season, but like everything here, there were delays. We did not want to go through the entire rainy season the way it was, so the crew is working between storms.

January 11, 2021 at 3:29 amNever a dull moment at ESB! Glad to hear you are getting the roof fixed, always so much to do.
I hope the itchy-scratchy tree sprouts a new branch but, thank goodness, it is still standing and still used!……and the blossoming friendships continue. A good start to 2021.
