Rana was a squeak machine earlier this week, super soft and affectionate. Rana always wants to be Lady’s friend, but this day she wanted to be Lady’s friend a little more than usual. Lady wasn’t particularly responsive, nor did she seem to be aware of Rana’s extra cuteness towards her for most of the day.
That afternoon, they were both near the barn (Lady was in Yard 2 & Rana was in Yard 1). Lady came over towards Shirlei for a drink and started playing in the mud the water hose was creating. Rana came up to the fence by Lady and behaved as if she wanted the hose as well. Shirlei stepped over and started spraying water in one spot on the ground to make a muddy mess for Rana.
Rana began splashing around. Lady, who was already feeling silly, came over to Rana’s mud party. Shirlei started going back and forth with the hose, spraying water in two spots so they could each have a temporary mud hole. They were maybe about three meters (10ft) apart.
Rana & Lady watched each other as they played, and they both seemed to enjoy the interaction of separate parties together. It felt very sweet and intentional.
Eventually, Lady ended the mud part by wandering off. Rana was full of rumbles and ear flaps as she watched Lady walk away.

So sweet! I’m sure Lady is experiencing having non threatening interactions with other elephants maybe for the first time in her life along with non threatening interactions with humans. Maybe she is processing all if these new experiences in her own time. This is just my humble observations from afar. You guys are so amazing. I am in awe of the work you do. So grateful there are people like you in this world. Thank you kind gentle and compassionate people❤?
