Morning Vocalizations

VOLUME UP for elephant sounds! Sometimes you hear elephants vocalizing and, even if you are nearby, you don’t always know exactly what they’re chatting about. Sometimes the tiniest things will get them going, and then they’re off to the races. That was the case here, with Maia, Bambi, and Guillermina. Perhaps it was just a celebration that the three of them were together–we’ll never know.

We initially heard Maia’s trumpets, which are frequently followed by Bambi’s deep rumbles. But this time, before Bambi could even get a sound out, Guille started offering up some of her high-pitched squeaks. She’s not always as vocal as her friends, so it was interesting to hear her express herself so eagerly. Of course, all of this was plenty to spur Bambi on, and we heard her rumbles across the habitat. At one point, Maia reaches over and gently touches Bambi’s face and then Guille does the same. After their quick little conversation, they settled into a sunny spot to graze for the rest of the afternoon.

Rumblings, Trumpetings, Physical touching, Ears flapping, Tails wagging, oh my!! This here is pure joy🥰

Do the sounds come from their trunks or out their mouths? They are so magical

pretty chatty today even the birds want in Sara what kind of birds are those that are so chatty

  We don’t know exactly what kind of bird it is from the video, but there are lots of sanctuary songbirds who charm us with their music.
