Sound on!! Karissa sent us this #MendozaMail, and then we found out today was #NationalCerealDay, so it’s a pretty perfect Sunday post!
From Karissa:
Everything is going well here in Mendoza, so far. Kenya, Tamy, Pocha, and Guillermina are cute as ever and, for the most part, enjoying their training sessions. Every now and then they (mostly Guillermina, hahaha) decide they would rather do something else and that is okay with us. We allow them the time they need and just try again later. Separations with Pocha and Guillermina are a big part of training since, due to safety, they will be in different crates during the transport to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil. Look for a post soon about what that process will look like – but in the meantime, we have discovered an adorable new way that Kenya has discovered to eat Froot Loops.
It’s just too cute to keep to ourselves. Hope you love this short, sweet, and super charming video of Miss Kenya pretending to be a vacuum cleaner. We love it and have watched it several times!

March 7, 2021 at 6:30 pmKenya! What a cutie!! It dawned on me recently: I’m so happy for G n P preparing for their journey, but feeling so bad for Tamy, as he will see his family leave and be left all alone. Have we begun plans for the male elephant area?
Kat Blais says
March 7, 2021 at 10:48 pmPlans yes, fundraising no. And unfortunately, it will be the most expensive area since the fences have to be a little bigger and have an extra horizontal.

March 7, 2021 at 7:23 pmSo sweet (pun intended) to get to see! Too bad Kellogg’s in Michigan isn’t interested in donating any product to GSE to help keep the girls happy. Below is what they said last month even after I explained that there is an educational aspect for kids at the sanctuary in TN. Oh well…we can all buy them for the elephants from your wishlist, is that right?
Thank you for contacting us about wanting some cereal donation for the Elephants .
We enjoyed hearing about Global Sanctuary for Elephants . It sounds like you are very dedicated and doing some great work. Although we’re grateful you considered us as a partner, we’re sorry, but we cannot offer support at this time.
In the United States, we provide support to Feeding America’s network of 200 food banks across the country. Globally, we support Kellogg’s Better Days, which donates food and provides breakfast programs for millions of children.
Thanks again, Bella, for reaching out.
We’re always here to help. Additional comments or photos are welcome. Please share them by clicking here to add to this conversation.

March 7, 2021 at 10:51 pmThanks for reaching out to Kellogg’s to see if they would donate. Some people are trying to do the same here in Brazil. But yes, people can always purchase Froot Loops for the girls off of the wishlist.

March 8, 2021 at 7:11 pmI think Kenya has the biggest, sweetest eyes I have ever seen on an elephant. I can’t wait til she can come to the Sanctuary and hopefully, have friends in Pupi and Kuki, and any other African girlies in need that are lucky enough to come to ESB. I’d be happy to treat her to some Fruit Loops. Look at my last name, I wish I could help her Hoover them up, but alas, I will settle for being happy to treat her to some when she gets to ESB.

March 11, 2021 at 12:04 amRE: Wishlist items… I know that food banks prefer cash donations, because their buying power is so much greater than a regular consumer. Is the same true for yourselves? Thank you!

March 11, 2021 at 11:34 amWe are grateful for all gifts, no matter what form they take. We use the wishlist in case you want your money to go toward something specific. If you prefer to donate in cash, that is always welcome. Thank you for asking!
