We feel like we have barely caught our breaths after The Big Payback Fundraiser, and we are full speed ahead with bringing Mara to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil!
She is coming! Actually & literally coming right now. She loaded into her crate, and it has been placed on the truck. They will be pulling out the EcoParque and will be officially on their way to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil.
The fact that the transport is happening now is incredible – it took a lot of work and diligence from the teams in Brazil and Argentina. It is thanks to tremendous cooperation from all the authorities with the team at the EcoParque. It ends up not being a perfect situation, but, at the same time, it is in Mara’s best interest to come as soon as possible. We just want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly to make this happen.
That said – we are excited, hopeful, and want to share what we can –
Mara is currently traveling with a select team from the Buenos Aries EcoParque. Mara’s transport team on the Argentina side of the border includes two of her regular caregivers, members of her vet team, and a couple of other people. We have a representative (who lives in Argentina) who is traveling with the caravan in Argentina, and we will be in very regular contact with everyone. We know this team, we trust this team. More importantly, this team knows Mara, and Mara knows them.
The border between Argentina & Brazil is closed to general traffic, only cargo shipments or those with special authority are allowed to transgress. As a result, Scott, along with a select group from our team, will be meeting Mara at the Brazil/Argentina border. Once Mara is in Brazil, Scott and the Brazilian transport team will be traveling as Mara’s caravan. The Argentine team will stay behind in Argentina, which will be hard for them to not fully see her off to her new home.
We are hoping Mara will arrive here mid-week this week. This may seem fast to you, but please know we have spent weeks tirelessly working and coordinating this transport. There were many times it seemed like it would not happen, or something fell apart, which is why we haven’t shared. We all got to the point where we weren’t going to believe it until she was on her way.
There are a lot of variables in this transport – even more than usual – so please be patient with us. Once Mara makes it over the border and into Brazil, we will know more. Please continue to keep your fingers crossed for Mara’s move.
We plan to start doing Facebook Lives after Mara is in Brazil and Scott is with her (for those not on Facebook, we will post Scott’s videos as quickly as possible here to the blog). We know everyone loves to see Scott’s smiling face, but you will be looking at Scott’s masked face this time. The teams are taking every precaution to keep themselves safe as well. But we can assure you Scott will be smiling underneath the mask.
