Not to be outdone by Lady (or, perhaps, inspired by Lady’s recent swimming), Mara has gone in the pond!
They were spotted in the pond when we went out to feed. Rana and Mara know that when they hear the 4-wheeler around 5 pm, it’s generally a food delivery. As soon as we spotted them in the pond, they started getting out, presumably because dinner takes priority over swimming. We were able to get a clear photo of them in the pond before they came out (photo above). Rana is the closer elephant, and Mara is behind her. As you can see from the wet/dry line in the photo below, she didn’t quite go all the way under the water.
We suspect this was Mara’s first time going in as we haven’t seen any indication that they have been swimming previously. Since they’ve been sharing Yard 4 with Lady recently, we aren’t sure if they saw Lady in the pond and were inspired. Having seen Lady in the pond, finally, we have to admit that she makes it look pretty fun.
Hilariously, since this happened, we’ve seen Rana and Mara on the edge of the pond in Yard 5, staring at it a few times recently, sometimes splashing around a bit. We aren’t sure if one of them is more into it than the other or waiting for the other to go in first, or what. It is cute, though.

?? they are true sisters, it’s wonderful, it makes me so happy to think of them together and how they must feel.
Funny to think of them watching Lady splashing around, then perhaps Rana encouraged Mara in. I bet she loved her first dip ????Thank you for getting this pic, it’s lovely ?
