Mara Finds a Stick

Mara and Rana were on a morning walk, possibly looking for a nice green place to graze after post-breakfast treatments and snacks. You can hear Mara squeak gently as she rounds the corner. She comes upon caregiver Tina, who was doing a mid-morning check-in to make sure all was well in the sanctuary world. Once Mara reaches Tina and receives her greeting, she picks up a stick that was on the other side of the fence and  gently hands it to Tina, who says thank you. As those of you who followed when Mara arrived, she used to trade and hand things to caregivers often (like empty banana peels). That habit diminished for the most part, but every once and a while she still hands something over.

Though Mara is in the front and more visible, Rana follows behind slowly – seeming curious, but not terribly concerned with tidying up the habitat. Mara and Rana are together as a twosome often these days, as Bambi spends more of her time with Maia and Guillermina. They can often be found standing near one another, no matter what yard they are in. Bambi will join them at times, but is spreading her time around among the whole group of five.

So maybe it’s like Mara does the cleaning and Rana does the cooking?
