Mara, Bambi, and Rana Enjoy a Cool Bath

The installation of our new well required some testing to make sure everything is functioning as it should. During the test, the inspectors needed to run the well pump for four hours, and we certainly didn’t want to waste water if it wasn’t necessary. So we asked the crew if we could use the water to fill the pond in Yard 5, and they of course said that we could.

The pond was already filled, but not totally full. We knew that Bambi, Mara, and Rana were  in the area near the pond and would surely hear the sound of water flowing. As expected, they did, and decided it was the perfect time to have a swim in the cool, fresh water.

During the video shown here, you can see the girls climbing out of the pond after their swim. There is another more gradual slope they could have used to exit, but chose this more difficult side instead. There are times when, because our ladies are fairly geriatric, one might assume that they lack strength or have poor body condition. This video demonstrates that they are all still quite strong and capable. You also see them drinking from the pond. The three are playing and splashing and dusting. Elephants generally don’t sip from standing water, but here they are filling themselves up directly from the input to the pond, which is where the fresh well water is being pumped in.

P.S.: This is a security camera video, so it has no sound.
