Makes Us Happy for Lady

Lady

Most days after treatment, the team offers Lady water from the hose before she begins exploring. One recent morning, Lady took water from the hose but didn’t drink it. She filled up her trunk and then let it drip out. She was making a sweet face and had her ears out, compounding the cute factor. She didn’t seem to be thirsty, even when she squirted the water in her mouth, most of it dripped back out.

It felt like, even though she didn’t want water, she wanted to engage with her humans for a few more minutes. Just in case we needed a reminder of how charming she is. ?

It’s a tiny thing, and a short story, but it reminds us how much she has changed. We know that her feet cause her some discomfort, so when we see her doing seemingly intentionally cute things, it makes us happy for her. It reminds us that emotionally, she is continually getting to a better place.

Our Ladybug is getting sweeter all the time. I found a picture of her the other day of when she first got to Global Brazil. At the water hose of course. The difference of how she looked then and now is amazing! Eyes are brighter, skin looks much better, her weight is better. Thank you for taking such good care of her.

I agree with a previous comment . The comparison of pictures months ago and now is so significant. Maybe the combination of developing trust for her new family, and maybe since her feet have improved, she is happier.

I know that everyone of your supporters will have joy in their hearts reading that post. We all want so much for Lady and even the little things that shows she’s OK brings me peace. Her first step onto sanctuary soil was the beginning of a brave new world for Lady. She took those steps , she has been brave, she is learning to trust…she is finding the real Lady. And she has captured the hearts of so many of us who hold her dear. She is so loved.

They go back and forth. The pads are much better on the front and back feet. Back feet are in pretty good condition. But those two nails (one on her left and one on her right) that were a significant issue when she arrived are still an issue. The pockets and layers of necrotic tissue and infection are a result of years of not being treated, and unfortunately, they have to be managed slowly as to not compromise the integrity of the foot. The bones of their toes end directly behind their nail, so it is incredibly likely that there is bone degradation and osteomyelitis. So while her feet are substantially better, and we joke that they actually look like feet and toes now, she has a long way to go and will unfortunately never have fully healthy feet.

All the work that you do on her feet to make them improve so much that “they look like feet.” Yaaay, the progress!!
