Maia has two speeds. We recently did a “day in the life of Maia” post that showcased how much she loves to move. We wanted to do another one demonstrating her other speed, zero speed.
Recently, Maia spent an entire day in proximity of Yard 1. After breakfast, she took a standing nap under itchy scratchy tree, and then followed up with a lying down nap in the mud wallow next to the tree.
Maia seems to enjoy those days as much as the days she spends running around. On her lazy days, she appears to have no thoughts of the other elephants. Her priorities are eating, relaxing, and napping- sanctuary style.
It sounds like a lovely way to spend a day.
Photo of Maia during one of her daily naps, looking like the queen of mud wallows.

July 30, 2020 at 2:22 amIt makes my day seeing a happy elephant. Life is so different now for magnificent Maia. She can do as she likes….to wallow or not to wallow, that is the question. But choices are easy to make now. Enjoy your life in this fabulous place, sweet darling.
Such a fabulous photo!
