Because the clouds are hiding and it’s very dry at the moment, the theme for the time being is keeping wet. The ponds, water troughs, and mud wallows are getting lots of use by all of the elephants. 

This morning, Maia was on her way to breakfast when all of a sudden she made a sharp right turn and found a mud wallow to coat herself in. While she loves her meals, she also knows that we’ll wait for her and put her food down once she’s ready for it. But it still says a lot about how dry the day was for Maia to delay food for a good old fashioned mud bath. She showed up for her meal with a nice coating that must have felt soothing and cool.
