Maia’s Dinner

We like to make sure each of our elephant residents receives equal time in the limelight because they are all equally perfect. And we know everyone has an elephant they resonate more with. It’s always a bit of a challenge to write regular posts about Maia because, well, she’s Maia.

Maia is a super easy elephant. She is cheeky, silly, a little rough around the edges, but we wouldn’t want her any other way. The elephant she is now is vastly different than the elephant who arrived here 3 years ago. She has worked hard to learn to trust and open up emotionally, and how easy she is now, is a testament to how far she has come. We are very proud of her.

She makes us laugh every day, but there generally isn’t a lot to say in regards to regular updates on her. Although lately she and Rana have been spending more time side by side again, and Maia checks in with Lady through the fence from time to time, her days are a little bit of eat, nap, float, nap, float, and repeat. But she definitely isn’t complaining. It’s her life, her choice, and it seems to bring her immense amounts of joy. And if she’s happy, we’re happy, and we hope you feel the same. ❤️

Video of Maia eating dinner. It’s peaceful and quiet, and unexciting in the best way. She is completely perfect and gorgeous, just like always. (If you watch to the end, you can watch her shove a massive amount of hay into her mouth.) Rana ate dinner near her, a little out of camera range.

Beautiful. Watching her made me smile and my soul rest – as what usually happens when I watch these videos. And you’re right – she’s perfect just the way she is. Sweet soul for sure. Thank you.

Does she flap her ears like that to cool herself? Or to communicate her feelings?

Flapping is for everything – it’s for cooling, for bugs, for communication. When she’s just chilling out and eating like that, the ear-flapping will be for bugs, especially since it wasn’t that hot out.

It is very relaxing watching our lovely Maia casually graze…..and make a huge clump of grass disappear!!! Wonderful! No rush, the birds are singing, the sky is blue and all is well in Maia’s world. You derserve this, sweetheart. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

We can all learn from animals; how they team work with their families, how they communicate, what they eat and how they
sleep, their habitats and so much more!
When I retired I needed a hobby and started studying elephants and doing a lot of research and reading. They are amazing!
At this time I found out about the elephant sanctuaries in America and GSE. I am grateful you care and exist!! Thank. you!
