In today’s photo, we are going to play a little game of “Find the Elephant.” (HINT: we don’t have rocks in our pond). That’s a resting Maia, and, yes, she is fine.
Ramba, Rana, and Lady all receive regular medical treatments at the barn, and Maia must have been feeling a little left out. She showed up at the barn this morning, looking for treat(ment)s. We let her go in the chute and hang out, and we gave her a wellness exam and gave her treats – while we don’t regularly ask her to go in the chute, it’s always good to take advantage of an opportunity to do so – it keeps her comfortable with the process, so, if issues arise, she can easily and safely be treated. Eating all those treats must have tired her out because once she left the barn she headed to the pond for the pictured rest.
Everyone else is doing great. Lady has settled in great – she loves being out in the rain and continues to be curious about the other elephants. Rana checks on Lady almost daily, just waiting for Lady to be ready for the next step in a friendship. Ramba has also checked out the foot jacuzzi for a soak and seems to approve. Rana and Ramba are pretty much inseparable, with Maia spending most of her days with them as well.
