Lady has been enjoying some time in Yard 4, as we have been allowing the elephants the opportunity to rotate in and out of different yards for some new scenery. Our plan was to shift her back into Yard 5, but Maia had a different idea.
Maia was in the farther reaches of Yard 5, moving around from spot to spot. She had no desire to leave the space, so we gave her a little bit more time there; there was no real rush at the time. At the end of the day, we were finally able to open up the gates to the yards near the barn for Lady, which gave us the opportunity to shift the five other girls into Yard 4. Lady then had full access to Yard 5.
As Lady settled into her new spot, we witnessed how excited she seemed to be about grazing on the new, green grass. There was hay spread throughout the yard, but she didn’t seem interested in snacking on any of that. The next morning she had her foot treatments along the training wall and still preferred grass over many of the treats she was offered. There’s little doubt that Lady makes the most of almost every opportunity to feast on the greenery around her.
