In the morning, Maia is usually half-asleep and easing into her day, but this morning she was practically running and hasn’t slowed down since.
Maia’s in high spirits and zooming everywhere today. She came over super fast for her breakfast this morning and dashed off as soon as she finished eating. Later in the day, Rana was eating palms along the fence line and Maia popped over, ate a palm, and then sprinted off to the pond. Scott joked that Maia seems to have a very packed schedule today, with lots on her agenda.
While Maia is speedy today, yesterday she spent most of the day in sleepy mode. Caregivers Shirlei and Laura saw Maia and Rana standing together in the afternoon. They were side by side, Maia putting her trunk in Rana’s mouth and Rana tentatively returning the gesture. Tired Maia works a little better for Rana B.
She seems happy and content doing her own thing at her own speed, and that is all that matters.

January 15, 2020 at 4:07 amThis is so good to hear, our Maia being silly and so happy! Losing Guida left a void in Maia so this playfulness is sign maybe that she is beginning to heal???? The pain from grief can be all consuming ( my husband and I lost our precious cat, Jess, to lymphoma 5 weeks ago and we also mourn sweet Ramba). Animals are so sensitive and I always turn to them when I need comforting……GSE has been a lifeline! So be free to love again darling Maia. Wonderful to see this playfulness in her.x

January 15, 2020 at 7:58 amRosie P, your comments touched my heart. GSE is part of my lifeline too. Some people would say about your precious cat, “it’s just a cat”. I knew someone like once, even though they had a cat for many years.
Lucky for me my husband was not a bit like his mother. But we know that elephants and cats and all creatures have souls.

January 15, 2020 at 4:50 pmI love this lady Maia, she is young at heart still, if not in years, I’m just in awe of her. So glad she is on the mend, and liking Rana’s company which is also good. Thank you for this lovely report
