After all five elephants received their Valentine’s Day treats courtesy of our donors, Bambi, Mara, and Rana gathered together to enjoy some hay. Maia was in the same area, not too far away, heading in for snacks.
Maia chose to walk near the other three elephants after everyone was finished eating their goodies. All four seemed content and in a light mood. Maia moved toward them until she was about 20 yards away. Bambi was standing nearest to Maia, but Rana ended up walking next to Bambi – just doing what Rana does: checking on everyone’s energy and making sure things were fine. The four of them shared space for several hours before Maia decided to enjoy some time near the pond. It was lovely to experience such a calm and easygoing interaction among the four.
The video shows Mara on the far left, Rana in the middle, and Bambi crossing over to the far right. Maia is in the background.

March 15, 2022 at 2:06 pmThat seems like a small wallow, especially for an elephant. Then again, I’m not prone to wallowing myself so how would I know! Anyhow, the dynamics between the girls is always interesting.

March 15, 2022 at 2:11 pm“Spontaneous” mud wallows arise on rainy days – and this was a very rainy day. So, it’s pretty normal for a naturally occurring spot. Manmade ponds and mud wallows would be larger.

March 15, 2022 at 2:45 pmShe is doing well. We just posted a blog (linked above) about her switching yards and getting near Bambi, Mara, and Rana. It was an exciting day.

March 15, 2022 at 2:43 pmWonderful elephant interaction. Does Lady ever interact with the other elephants, or does GSE think that she is unable to take down the wall she has created so she is able to make real friends among her fellow elephants?

March 15, 2022 at 2:44 pmI posted a link below of her getting near the other elephants last week. As always, it’s based on her comfort level.

March 15, 2022 at 4:06 pmGreat video! Harmony abounds 🤗. BTW, did the clouds really fly up that fast in the background or is that a video effect (like fast forward)? Pretty dramatic! Such a beautiful area ❤️
