Miss Maia and her fuzz. But look at those eyelashes. ?
We have to apologize to those of you who adore Miss Maia and don’t get to see as many photos of her. Many of the pictures we take in the habitat are when we are out feeding (most of the time we just leave them to be elephants.) And when it comes to feeding, Maia is usually done first, then we zoom off to make sure whoever is in her vicinity gets their food with plenty of time to eat all of it.
Maia was terrible about stealing Guida’s food when they first arrived. She got much better about it, and after a while, it wasn’t a concern at all. With Rana’s arrival, it crept back in again. It’s probably temporary this time around as well, but it does mean we are only with her for a short time. And this girl is fast. While Guida moseys and Rana is laid back until she sees her food down, Maia is full speed at all times. It makes it hard to pause and take a good shot.

Kat Blais says
May 20, 2019 at 6:18 pmSome of their current facilities and countries do help. The Mendoza Zoo is supposed to pay for their transport, but with the economic struggles in Argentina, we will have to see. As for Ramba, we will have to hold a fundraiser for the remainder of the cost of her flight. We have some of the funds raised, but don’t want to go any further with that until we make significant progress with her CITES import permits. Those permits are supposed to take several months, and it has been over a year. We just essentially restarted Ramba’s process, a different way, after internal recommendations, and hope this makes all of the difference.
