Maia has been much more interactive with Bambi, Mara, and Rana lately. She seems to have little hesitation when it comes to moving close to the group – even Bambi, who she has kept the most distance from in the past. We have seen her eating breakfast about two fence lengths from Bambi at times, without feeling the need to have another elephant between.
She seems to be more comfortable in the habitat with the three girls, just hanging out – not only during meal times, which was once the case. Maia still enjoys her time alone and, instead of heading to the barn to wait for her breakfast, will head across the creek to the far side of Yard 4. She grazes there, but appears to readily head back into close proximity toward Bambi, Mara, and Rana. Maia is definitely gaining confidence in herself and showing more of her personality to the others.
