Maia Enjoys the Fresh Grass

Earlier this week, while Lady was spending time near Bambi, Mara, and Rana, Maia was in the same yard as the “Powerpuff Girls,” but on the other side of the creek – happily grazing. 

In this video that Scott recorded, you can actually hear Maia ripping the grass from the ground and chewing it – one of Scott’s favorite sounds. An act like this, an elephant just enjoying an organic meal surrounded by nature, is something that would have once been impossible for Maia. These simple pleasures are heartwarming to all of us at sanctuary, since they are just other small moments that reflect the beauty and importance of a life of freedom.

    You described this moment so beautifully and what a beautiful sound indeed! I am amazed that the Girls knew what to eat in nature once they arrived at Sanctuary after having little access in their pre-sanctuary places. Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment with us! Love and hugs ❤️🐘❤️

      It truly is amazing how quickly they can adapt to the natural world again. That’s part of the beauty of sanctuary.

    Sanctuary is truly Elephant paradise. So beautiful for these magnificent girls to have freedom in such a magical place. Angels do walk amongst us.🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘😇😇😇
