While it’s still the dry season here in Mato Grosso, we keep getting wonderful and unexpected rainstorms. It makes the grass and people really happy and it makes the elephants really silly. When the weather is slightly cooler and it rains, the girls always seem extra light and playful. As the team was driving up to feed the ladies this rainy afternoon, the elephants were already very spirited – all muddy and wet, their tails sticking out with excitement. Seeing someone drive up in the 4-wheeler ramped up the emotions to nearly a full-blown party for some of them. Pocha and Guillermina start off the chorus with their vocalizations, then Bambi walks over to join them and eventually asks for a snack in a not-so-subtle way. Rana and Mara are also there in the background, enjoying the rain in a more mellow style.
